The fire took place around 9 a.m., Monday, April 20, at Bell Place in the Danbury Housing Complex, said Danbury Fire Department Spokesman James Gagliardo.

When the department arrived on the scene they reported heavy smoke and flames showing from the rear of a two-story multi-family building, Gagliardo said.

A second alarm was struck summoning additional units to the scene including Danbury Police and Nuvance Hospital Danbury Paramedics along with the Fire Marshal’s Office.

When units first arrived it was not clear if there were any occupants that remained in the building so a search was conducted, he said.

"Fortunately all occupants escaped safely with no injuries which was confirmed by an evaluation from EMS," Gagliardo said.

Units extinguished the fire quickly. Red Cross was requested to the scene to assist with the displaced families.

The Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office is on scene investigating the cause of the fire which is undetermined at this time.
